Windows 8 64 bit - Compatibility test

Windows 8 logo dark backgroundIn October 2012 Microsoft released their new OS, called Microsoft 8. Like several previous releases, it's available in two version: 32bit and 64bit. I think many of you know about this System, some of you probably have Windows 8 installed, but I think it's good idea to inform you about this, how our favourite games from the Battlestations series are working under control of Windows 8.

For our test, we used Athlon X3, 4GB Ram DDR3, HDD SSD SATA3 Kingston and Windows 8 64 bit, and there are results:

A new hope - we can play online!

Ever since they closed our multiplayer, nothing really happened. Now we know that GameSpy is already bought by GluMobile, and one of first moves of the new owner was closing the servers. They turned off multiplayer for many old PC-Games, and they destroyed many communities of gamers. Including our own. On the Gamespy Fanpage there is no answer from the Gamespy developpers, on the Glu Mobile Fanpage they deleting all comments from guys asking about game servers and showing us their disregard. Personally I'm sure I will never buy any game using GameSpy technology or any game from GluMobile ever again.

Of course many people tried to find a way to rebuild their communities. We tried it too. Finally we found a way to play Battlestations: Midway without GameSpy. Yesterday two greek guys, Psaroulis and Georgevivlos send me some info about GameRanger and our favourite game. Now i'm really happy to inform you about the new way to play Battlestations: Midway online. Click Read More to see details.

This game's backend service is unavailable - last fight...

Yesterday, as usual, several gamers tried to join Battlestations Midway Game Lobby. Our community is small, and going to be smaller and smaller, but our battles were intense and fierce, as usual. However, this evening we found unpleasant surprise. Log in to Game Spy account was not possible, instead of that we kept to receive message:
This game's backend service is unavailable.

My first thought wasn't optimistic. I've realised that this game is old and the company who released it, died long time ago. Battlestations Midway is old game with very small community and complete lack of support. I was waiting one day, but today nothing is changed: This game's backend service is unavailable.

Should we give up? I started to think and search, and that's what I found.
