Map Name: Raid on Rabaul

THIS IDEA HAS BEEN SCRATCHED

History: After the Allies took Bouganville they decided to attack the Japanese base of Rabaul. The USN sent in the CVs Saratoga and Princeton with 4 DDs and 2 CLs. After traveling under the cover of a storm they launch everything they have at the base. Their targets were the airfeild and the fleet in the bay consisting of  2 CAs, a CV, and 4 DDs.   

Units (US):

Slot 1: CV, DD,DD
Slot 2: CVL, DD,CL
Slot 3: CA DD,DD
Slot 4: CA,DD,CL

The CVs will consist of 30 Wildcats, 30 Dauntlesses, and 30 Avengers each.
2 of the DDs will be Clemson class and the other 2 of course Fletcher
The 2 CLs will be Atlanta Class
The CAs will be York class

Units (IJN):

Slot 1: Airfeild,DD,CL
Slot 2: CV,DD,CL
Slot 3: CA,DD,DD
Slot 4: CA, DD,Shipyard

The airfeild will consist of 30 Gekkos, 20 Bettys, and 30 Kates
The CV (Akagi Class) will consist of 30 Zeroes, 30 Judys, and 30 Kates
The 5 DDs will be Fubuki Class
The 2 CAs will be Tone Class
The CLs will be Kiso Class
The shipyard is capable of launching Type A subs


Objectives:

US:
                1. Destroy the Japanese fleet, and airfeild
                2. Atleast one Allied key unit must survive ( Saratoga, Princeton)

IJN
                1. Destroy the US carriers
                2. One japanese key unit must survive (Akagi and Airfeild)

First id like to say; this thread doesnt belong here! Can someone move it to where it should be?

Ok onward to what I think, well at a first glance, this will be a really small battle, so a highly skill player would own here. Also small battles could backfire as shown here, the Allied forces can put up twice as many aerial squads then the Japanese can and theres few ships (big ones not to mendtion) for flak support, so taking out that air base would be really easy. once the air base is gone, its only a matter of time picking off the CA's one by one from an air strike.

Also since the Japanese have to take out the 2 carriers which are practically moving airbases could be very hard, the CV's could just run while doing constant strikes and the CA's would be receiving damage from escorts and being slowed down by them.

In short it feels lopsided and geared towards Allied forces in my opinion.

Here is my opinion on it. Adding 1 or 2 DD to each player will make this map longer and harder to win for both sides. Now it seems like the Battle of Phillipines that we already have so we can add 2 more CAs and 2 more Airfields to the Japanese and we can give the Americans 2 Northamptons the Ranger(it was in the Atlantic the whole war) and perhaps the Hornet(if it hasn't been sunk yet.) This would make the battle more Unique and it would be like a version of Operation MI but with large surface forces too. Also converting the two US CLs to CAs would make this map fair since 2 CA and 2 CL are really no match for 4 CA. But its your idea and I'm just giving my opinion of it.

Okay i'm back so i can add my 5 cents. First of all map concept should include a draft. Take a look for Tokyo and  Indian or for Nemesis/Tipsy projects, You should see their projects are really good drawn. Thats is the much easiest way to let other users understand your map concept.

Second: at this moment we have identical units like on Battle of Philippines. Maybe its it should look a little different ? Untypical project probably has bigger chance to be build.

should   i    scratch this idea im tryin 2 edit it as we speak so its not as biased 2 the us side... i added the akagi 4 japs and gave them some more units...



but can sum1 plz check out my pearl harbor idea? its incredibly balanced us has 2 airfeilds and 2 cvs(wut couldve happened if CVs wer ther) 3 BBs a shipyard the same amount of DDs as japan and 2 subs, japan haz 4 CVs 3 subs 3 BBs and of course same amount of DDs as america, BBs are new york class and kongo, CVs are yorktown akagi ans soryu, dds are clemson, fletcher,and fubuki, subs are narwhal, and type b, everything with aircraft has 40 of each plane so every side can end up putting 120 planes each if they both waste all ther planes so u can hav HUGE dogfights and HUGE NAVAL battles k sorry u couldnt find it but thts all  the units

  • Legendary Da : Hi everyone, I have one (or two) quick question about BS:M modding. I try to figure out sp mapmaking, and my first act on it was to convert a MP map to SP. However I can only play as Allies in those maps. What parameter do I have to change to play those maps as Japanese in the respective map .mpak (And where is the parameter I have to change?)?

  • Mokeo67 : The dictator, I downloaded the mmod2txm and I added four slots to the fletcher and a couple to the lexington.Thanks for the help though.
  • The Dictator : Makeo67 i've explained how to find the unused slots in the topic and the mmod2txm it's a program that has been shared. However there aren't so many ships with unused platforms and sme of them are in wrong positions and for move them you need to know how to change the mmod file. But if you know how to do it you can make new platfors as you want. I've shared the south dakota disposition and this one is the most intersting in my opinion

  • Mokeo67 : I tried changing the bogue class carrier to a yorktown class in the phillipene sea mission and one of two things happened. The mission either didnt change or the game crashed.

  • Axis_Crusher : specific mission’s 3_scene mpak file by working on the .lua file. There is where the bonus unit is actually added into the mission (by the script). I haven't tried it myself so good luck.
  • Axis_Crusher : I assume you are talking about the bonus units that you unlock for certain missions by completing previous ones (like the B - 25’s in the 2nd Battle of Guadalcanal). The bonus units are unlocked by completing certain objectives in the campaign - so that is linked to your campaign progress. Since that cannot be altered you must look at the missiontree.lua file. This is where the unit will show up unlocked on the mission screen. There are references to allunitslock. Also you will have to edit the
  • Mokeo67 : Thank you I will look in this file. I did unlock all the campaign missions, all you have to do is delete the text after 'prerequisite' and it will unlock. But I havent figured out how to unlock the bonus units.
  • Axis_Crusher : I also prefer it being off, just as most of the BSM community. Most players, however prefer repair to be enabled so that is what we should do. Most of our maps it will be disabled through the script however. If you want to play with the game's repair settings you can find it under shipglobals.lua
