Mogami and Takao Cruisers

Mogami and Takao Cruisers

At first glance, the Mogami and Takao classes seems to be virtually identical, aside from the looks and turret placements. However, when I compared them in gameplay, the Mogami is superior to the Takaos in two respects; Anti-Air and Firing Arcs. The Mogami gets 2 of those 13 mm machine guns mounted forward along with it's 4 25 mm Triple AA, while the Takao gets only the 4 25 Triple AA (They both have the 4 double-barreled 5" flak guns on the sides). Also the firing arcs for the Mogami allow it to fire it's second turret sooner than the Takao's third turret when approaching head on and turning.

Does the Takaos have little more health over the Mogami or something to make up for the differences or no?

Re: Mogami and Takao Cruisers

Hi

I pulled the specs for you

Mogami class:
Armour: 90
HP: 6500
Numer of guns: 10
Gun reload time: 10
Gun damage (min/max): 180/190
Shell blast damage: 90
Total damage per volley(average of 185 damage): 1850

Takao class:
Armour: 90
HP: 6500
Numer of guns: 10
Gun reload time: 10
Gun damage (min/max): 180/190
Shell blast damage: 90
Total damage per volley(average of 185 damage): 1850

Compare this to its main adversary - the Northampton class:
Armour: 90
HP: 6500
Numer of guns: 9
Gun reload time: 10
Gun damage (min/max): 200/220
Shell blast damage: 90
Total damage per volley(average of 210 damage): 1890

And the Alaska class for the joke:
Armour: 90
HP: 7200
Numer of guns: 9
Gun reload time: 12
Gun damage (min/max): 240/260
Shell blast damage: 90
Total damage per volley(average of 250 damage): 2250

I would not count normal AA machine guns and autocannons as AA weapons of any real effect - they are so inaccurate in game they hardly ever hit. Flak guns are the damage dealers to aircraft.
With regards to HP they are identical, though the Takao has less armour. How armour works in this game it is on the basis of all or nothing. If a shell that deals 80 damage (or even 90 for that matter) hits an armour value of 90 it will be "ineffective" while if a shell lands that deals 91 damage it will cause 91 damage to the ship. Some shells have minimum/maximum values and the game then chooses a random damage number between and including both values.

Does the Mogami really have 150 armour?
I mean the Yamato has 140 and SoDak 130.

So if it's the flak that really matters, is the Akagi the best aircraft carrier for AA because it got several of those double-barreled flak along with long-ranged airburst rocket launchers that are modeled as the american flak gun and has no machine guns/autocannons?

In theory but the normal AA guns have a moderate reload than the rockets take long to reload. The Akizuki is a plane killer with those rapid fire flak guns. Pretty much any US ship that has a lot of the dual 5" guns (Atlanta, Iowa, South Dakota) are a nightmare to attack with planes. The Atlanta more so because of the amount of guns that can target any direction. The Super Yamato is like an Akizuki with murderous 20" artillery.

Re: Mogami and Takao Cruisers

The Akagi  doesn't show up often, but those rockets were interesting to use, I thought, as it's unique to that carrier. Is there anything showing the damage for those rockets? I think they do more damage than the standard flak shells, and has longer range; around 1.3 miles compared to flak shells 1.1 miles. But as you said, they have much longer reload time.

(Also noticed that the Akagi can fire four of the launchers to the port side but only three to starboard, so it's a better idea to have the port side facing the direction of the enemy.)

Re: Mogami and Takao Cruisers

In terms of the game's script files the rockets fired by the Akagi are the exact same ones the Kikka and Raiden use (R4M) but with only a different explosion effect.

Best place to play with the Akagi is Seizing the Fiji's. I kind of use that map to test AA configurations for japanese ships (like Yamato 1945).

  • Legendary Da : Hi everyone, I have one (or two) quick question about BS:M modding. I try to figure out sp mapmaking, and my first act on it was to convert a MP map to SP. However I can only play as Allies in those maps. What parameter do I have to change to play those maps as Japanese in the respective map .mpak (And where is the parameter I have to change?)?
  • N_Trainz : G'day mates, I just wanted to let those who use Windows 10 and also for those who are having troubles getting the game launching because of Games for Windows LIVE, I made a tutorial of how to get it working successfully again like on Windows 8.1. Its on my channel and here's the link to the video. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : The dictator, I downloaded the mmod2txm and I added four slots to the fletcher and a couple to the lexington. Thanks for the help though.
  • The Dictator : Makeo67 i've explained how to find the unused slots in the topic and the mmod2txm it's a program that has been shared. However there aren't so many ships with unused platforms and sme of them are in wrong positions and for move them you need to know how to change the mmod file. But if you know how to do it you can make new platfors as you want. I've shared the south dakota disposition and this one is the most intersting in my opinion
  • N_Trainz : Well it looks like we have spammers again
  • Mokeo67 : No problem Thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : Not really
  • Mokeo67 : Ok thanks anyway. Do you know who does?
  • Axis_Crusher : Unfortunately I don't deal with that part of modding
  • Mokeo67 : Sorry forgot the link. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : This is the forum topic I meant. The dictator said he found the unused slots in the TXM file obtainable with the mmod2txm, what is this and is it available to use.
  • Axis_Crusher : This is your best bet: «link»
  • Mokeo67 : Also I saw on the forum that ships have unused platform slots. How do I use these?
  • Mokeo67 : I tried changing the bogue class carrier to a yorktown class in the phillipene sea mission and one of two things happened. The mission either didnt change or the game crashed.
  • Axis_Crusher : No problem
  • Mokeo67 : That is what im talking about. Ill have a look at it later thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : specific mission’s 3_scene mpak file by working on the .lua file. There is where the bonus unit is actually added into the mission (by the script). I haven't tried it myself so good luck.
  • Axis_Crusher : I assume you are talking about the bonus units that you unlock for certain missions by completing previous ones (like the B - 25’s in the 2nd Battle of Guadalcanal). The bonus units are unlocked by completing certain objectives in the campaign - so that is linked to your campaign progress. Since that cannot be altered you must look at the missiontree.lua file. This is where the unit will show up unlocked on the mission screen. There are references to allunitslock. Also you will have to edit the
  • Mokeo67 : Thank you I will look in this file. I did unlock all the campaign missions, all you have to do is delete the text after 'prerequisite' and it will unlock. But I havent figured out how to unlock the bonus units.
  • Axis_Crusher : I also prefer it being off, just as most of the BSM community. Most players, however prefer repair to be enabled so that is what we should do. Most of our maps it will be disabled through the script however. If you want to play with the game's repair settings you can find it under shipglobals.lua
