Seizing the Atoll (Reworked Operation Hailstone)

With Velcor having made a "Raid on Truk" map, that means that it is now impossible for Operation Hailstone to get made (and I really liked the name "Operation Hailstone") in its current state.  So, I have decided to recycle this old idea into something different.  An alternate history map, you could say.

BACKSTORY:

It is November 1943.  It has been almost a year since the Japanese have withdrawn from Guadalcanal (Operation Ke), and now they are trying to figure out what to do.  A reconassince plane on routine air patrol noticed an uncharted Island chain roughly 150 miles southwest of the Solomon Island chain.  It's flat terrain makes it perfect for airfields, and its atoll feature would make a great harbor.  So, the high command decides to take a gamble:

Use the newly discovered Islands as a staging point for retaking Guadalcanal, and push America back.  Just 7 months earlier Admrial Isoroku Yamamoto was shot down over the solomon Islands while undergoing an inspection of it from a G4M.  In honor of the late admiral, the Japanese hereby name it "Yamamoto Atoll."

However, due to the American MAGIC, the Americans get wind of this, and decide to take the islands for themselves.  However, they plan to rename the islands "Chicago Atoll," in honor of the last American ship lost at Guadalcanal.  An assult force is sent to the Island atoll (Only the western half of the atoll is visible) to wipe out the Japanese units, and this mission is codenamed Operation Sledgehammer (Well that's the best name I can think of!)

Because of the geographical features of the Atoll, Admiral Bull Halsey (who was put in charge) decides that the best meathod of attack is an air strike.  However, due to reports of battleships, he also takes the South Dakota, New York and Texas, just to be safe.  With 5 carriers and 3 battleships, escorted by 2 light cruisers and 8 DDs, Halsey notices that the small opening in the harbor would make a perfect ambush point for submarines, so two subs are placed at the harbor's mouth... perfect ambush position.  However, the Japs also have patrolling submarines, and plan to ambush the ambushers.

Player 1-  Yorktown CV x2, Clevland CL, Fletcher DD x2
Player 2-  Yorktown CV x2, Clevland CL, Fletcher DD x2

Player 4-  New York BB x2, Fletcher DD x2, Narwhal SS

The CVs each have 30 F4Fs, 30 SBDs and 30 TBFs.

JAPANESE-

Player 1- Airfield, Shipyard, Fuso BB, Mogami CA, Fubuki DD
Player 2- Airfield, Shipyard, Fuso BB, Mogami CA, Fubuki DD
Player 3- Airfield, Shipyard, Tone CA, Fubuki DD, Type B sub
Player 4- Airfield, Shipyard, Tone CA, Fubuki DD, Type B sub

The airfields each have 30 A6Ms, 30 D4Ys and 30 B5Ns

The shipyards each have 2 Midget subs, 5 PT boats, 5 H8K flying boats (if possible) and 3 Minekaze DDs


OBJECTIVES-

US- Conquer Yamamoto Atoll by destroying the Japanese units (Airfields, Shipyards, Merchant fleet, BBs, CAs, DDs)   The merchant fleet consists of 8 Cargos, 4 oilers, 3 Transports.

JAPAN- Defend Yamamoto Atoll (Wipe out attacking force)

I did consider G3Ms and G4Ms for this map, but I decided to use them for Battle of Rennell Island instead.

You proposed your own version of Operation: Hailstone, did you not?  Well, just alter the units around a little, maybe do some geographical features to make the map unique, and we'll have Naval battle of Guadalcanal
(BTW, next time pm me about this stuff, we still need the opinions of the public!)

  • The Dictator : Makeo67 i've explained how to find the unused slots in the topic and the mmod2txm it's a program that has been shared. However there aren't so many ships with unused platforms and sme of them are in wrong positions and for move them you need to know how to change the mmod file. But if you know how to do it you can make new platfors as you want. I've shared the south dakota disposition and this one is the most intersting in my opinion
