PSP Xbox360: PlayerGames vs. the Computer (Island Capture)

PSP Xbox360: PlayerGames vs. the Computer (Island Capture)

Hi All!
My friend and I have been playing the Swirl (Medium) map on Xbox360 against the AI. We are playing as US/Allied forces. The trouble is that the AI seems to create a lot more units than we have (several battleships and lots of cruisers).  It seems that controlling the neutral headquarters (#6, I thnk) in the middle of the map is key--although I could be wrong here.  Whenever we make a rush for that headquarters, we never can capture it, because the AIs surface fleet captures it first.  We have tried every combination of level bombers, skytrains, transports, etc.  Any suggestions?

The AI isnt too smart it tends to be focused on one base at a time, best way to beat it is to hold it up at one point while using landers or Air transport to capture the surrounding bases.

And if it keeps spawning BB's/CA and or CL's use their achile heel, the sub, if you cant get a sub bomb em with seaplanes they are the 2nd best option.

Re: PSP Xbox360: PlayerGames vs. the Computer (Island Capture)

Westfield91, also be aware that any ship can take an island (don't waste your time with slow, weak transports). Try sending your own BB's to the middle base in force (try to make sure you have the Iowa BB unlock since that baby is way better than their Kongo's or use the Montana if you've got the Mustang Pack). If you have the Iowa's (preferably the Montana's), send 3 to the mid base with 2 DD's for torpedo runs on their BB's. With the final 100pts, get 2 PT boats to take the outlying supply bases (they are excellent for this job since they're cheap, fast and you don't need to waste your fleet on getting those bases).

Once you get the middle base, spawn more BB's to replace any that get destroyed as this is going to be a BB battle from here on out. The AI will be constantly spawning BB's and sending them at that base (you need to hold it at all costs). Put your BB's in position so that all their big guns are pointing towards the way they approach the island. Meanwhile, send the PT boats to capture supply bases because you'd really like to have that Auto-Reloader for defending the mid base (man, an Iowa or a Montana with a reloader is almost unstoppable).

*Note: If the AI ever spawns an Air Transport, just put a squadron of fighters up to quickly take it down. However, once you have the center base, the AI will almost always spawn wave after wave of BB's.

Re: PSP Xbox360: PlayerGames vs. the Computer (Island Capture)

The AI never uses any unlocks, so I say simply grab the Iowa/Yamato unlock, spam them, and then mosey onto the centre base and take it.

The best the AI can possibly respond with are Kongos/Renowns, both of which epic fail against Yamato/Iowa.

My point being that you don't need a major strategy to win against the AI. A human player is obviously different.

Re: PSP Xbox360: PlayerGames vs. the Computer (Island Capture)

Arrow is 100% correct. The strategy I outlined is basically the same one you can use against the AI on any map (some maps you may not have BB's at first and maybe just CA's or CL's, but its the same concept). I just wanted to point out that any ship can take an island which isn't apparent at first. When I first started, I was using troop transports and paratroop planes because the SP campaign teaches you that's the way you have to take an island. Its a real shame, too, since I think it would have added a lot more strategy to the Island Capture mode if only those units were able to capture a base.

Westfield91, after you and your buddy play more, you will see that it will become quite easy to beat the AI and you'll be wondering why you were having a tough time (I have to admit, I did at first). Then, like Arrow says, human players react quite differently and will adjust their strategies all the time. The skirmish mode is really a place to learn, hone your tactics and skills, but, eventually, you're going to want to go online and play the real deal against other players.

Re: PSP Xbox360: PlayerGames vs. the Computer (Island Capture)

The major problem with going online though is the number of idiots who simply don't understand how to play as a team. Either that or they're at the point where they don't need a team and simply kill a ton of stuff on their own.

I wish I found find someone to spar with.

  • Legendary Da : Hi everyone, I have one (or two) quick question about BS:M modding. I try to figure out sp mapmaking, and my first act on it was to convert a MP map to SP. However I can only play as Allies in those maps. What parameter do I have to change to play those maps as Japanese in the respective map .mpak (And where is the parameter I have to change?)?
  • N_Trainz : G'day mates, I just wanted to let those who use Windows 10 and also for those who are having troubles getting the game launching because of Games for Windows LIVE, I made a tutorial of how to get it working successfully again like on Windows 8.1. Its on my channel and here's the link to the video. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : The dictator, I downloaded the mmod2txm and I added four slots to the fletcher and a couple to the lexington. Thanks for the help though.
  • The Dictator : Makeo67 i've explained how to find the unused slots in the topic and the mmod2txm it's a program that has been shared. However there aren't so many ships with unused platforms and sme of them are in wrong positions and for move them you need to know how to change the mmod file. But if you know how to do it you can make new platfors as you want. I've shared the south dakota disposition and this one is the most intersting in my opinion
  • N_Trainz : Well it looks like we have spammers again
  • Mokeo67 : No problem Thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : Not really
  • Mokeo67 : Ok thanks anyway. Do you know who does?
  • Axis_Crusher : Unfortunately I don't deal with that part of modding
  • Mokeo67 : Sorry forgot the link. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : This is the forum topic I meant. The dictator said he found the unused slots in the TXM file obtainable with the mmod2txm, what is this and is it available to use.
  • Axis_Crusher : This is your best bet: «link»
  • Mokeo67 : Also I saw on the forum that ships have unused platform slots. How do I use these?
  • Mokeo67 : I tried changing the bogue class carrier to a yorktown class in the phillipene sea mission and one of two things happened. The mission either didnt change or the game crashed.
  • Axis_Crusher : No problem
  • Mokeo67 : That is what im talking about. Ill have a look at it later thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : specific mission’s 3_scene mpak file by working on the .lua file. There is where the bonus unit is actually added into the mission (by the script). I haven't tried it myself so good luck.
  • Axis_Crusher : I assume you are talking about the bonus units that you unlock for certain missions by completing previous ones (like the B - 25’s in the 2nd Battle of Guadalcanal). The bonus units are unlocked by completing certain objectives in the campaign - so that is linked to your campaign progress. Since that cannot be altered you must look at the missiontree.lua file. This is where the unit will show up unlocked on the mission screen. There are references to allunitslock. Also you will have to edit the
  • Mokeo67 : Thank you I will look in this file. I did unlock all the campaign missions, all you have to do is delete the text after 'prerequisite' and it will unlock. But I havent figured out how to unlock the bonus units.
  • Axis_Crusher : I also prefer it being off, just as most of the BSM community. Most players, however prefer repair to be enabled so that is what we should do. Most of our maps it will be disabled through the script however. If you want to play with the game's repair settings you can find it under shipglobals.lua
