Siege Clash

Siege Clash

This map appears to be almost impossible to document because it's so weird - I can't seem to find what to shoot at. Any suggestions? I'm seriously at the end of my rope here, as I've killed just about everything I can imagine. The fact you're a PT boat in really stormy seas doesn't really help.

So does someone think they can figure out what it takes to win this map?

Re: Siege Clash

OK Arrow, decided to play this one for the first time and it seems that's all you're supposed to do ("as I've killed just about everything I can imagine"). You are only assisting the assault and need to help by keeping the LST's alive. Use torpedoes on DD's and AA gun on planes and other PT boats.  I won the battle and that's the only thing I did.

Re: Siege Clash

Yeah, that's what I did too. The weird bit is how strength sometimes falls in huge increments and I have no idea what causes it. The fact you're in high water doesn't make aiming your AA guns easier either. I have a feeling it's got to do with the Coastal Guns but I can't seem to get close enough to be sure.

I guess there isn't much strategy to that one then? o.O

Re: Siege Clash

I'm guessing the strength drops in big increments when you lose something important like a LST or DD. I'll try it again tonight and see if that's the case. I have to agree with you on those waves...they are a real pain in the butt for aiming your AA.

Re: Siege Clash

The major targets seem to be:

-The American LSTs
-The Japanese Fubukis
-The Japanese Coastal Guns
-The American Fletchers
-The planes

If the Japanese objective is to simply destroy the LSTs, the map isn't balanced...as the Americans have nothing to destroy similarly to win.

I doubt it's the destroyers, because I sink those all the time and I never get anywhere.

I can't be sure if it's the coastal guns as I can't get close enough to kill them.

The planes seem to remove about 10 points apiece when shot down, but that's not the major influence on strength I'm looking for.

...so what is it?

Re: Siege Clash

From what I can tell, the LST's (like the DD's and PT boats) just continue to respawn. The object seems to be reducing each other's points to zero, so you want to keep the respawning to a minimum. It looks like each  DD destroyed is 30pts., LST's are 25pts, PT boats are 12pts, and planes 10pts. So, the US side really needs to concentrate on keeping their LST losses low while killing as many of the Japanese DD's as they can and any nearby PT boats or planes (since the PT's don't have flak, they can only really shoot at planes or other PT's that are around .5 miles or less).

I'd say its somewhat balanced as I was able to win from either side, but I'd give a slight advantage to the Japanese since the LST's don't have as many guns as the DD's to defend against the PT boats. I have no idea about the coastal guns being a prime target since getting that far away from your fleet means less protection for the LST's (which seem to unleash their rockets on them anyway). I went to the coast and took out all the guns and AA emplacements (took me two runs to do), but it didn't seem to help much and, meanwhile, our side took a lot of losses.

So, for the US side, I'd say the best strategy is to stick close to your LST's and provide protection against the Japanese DD's, planes and PT boats while keeping your losses to a minimum (including your own PT boat since that'll cost your side 12pts. everytime you need to respawn). On the Japanese side, they have a wide choice of targets, but I'd say they should concentrate on the US LST's since they're the easiest to attack and sink (while causing them a 25pt. loss in strength).

Hope that helps you out Arrow. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.

Re: Siege Clash

I thought about trying to cover the LSTs as well, but as you said before the waves seem to prevent you from aiming your AA guns at the opposing side's PT boats easily. Not only that but the LSTs are actually dumb enough to move in toward the island - right on top of its coastal guns. So yeah, I believe the Japanese have a huge advantage on this map.

I'll retry it again but I tried it multiple times from both sides as well. Worst comes to worst, I'll just extrapolate the rest of the map from the data you've given me. That's enough to complete the page at the very least, even if I can't beat it personally.

  • Legendary Da : Hi everyone, I have one (or two) quick question about BS:M modding. I try to figure out sp mapmaking, and my first act on it was to convert a MP map to SP. However I can only play as Allies in those maps. What parameter do I have to change to play those maps as Japanese in the respective map .mpak (And where is the parameter I have to change?)?
  • N_Trainz : G'day mates, I just wanted to let those who use Windows 10 and also for those who are having troubles getting the game launching because of Games for Windows LIVE, I made a tutorial of how to get it working successfully again like on Windows 8.1. Its on my channel and here's the link to the video. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : The dictator, I downloaded the mmod2txm and I added four slots to the fletcher and a couple to the lexington. Thanks for the help though.
  • The Dictator : Makeo67 i've explained how to find the unused slots in the topic and the mmod2txm it's a program that has been shared. However there aren't so many ships with unused platforms and sme of them are in wrong positions and for move them you need to know how to change the mmod file. But if you know how to do it you can make new platfors as you want. I've shared the south dakota disposition and this one is the most intersting in my opinion
  • N_Trainz : Well it looks like we have spammers again
  • Mokeo67 : No problem Thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : Not really
  • Mokeo67 : Ok thanks anyway. Do you know who does?
  • Axis_Crusher : Unfortunately I don't deal with that part of modding
  • Mokeo67 : Sorry forgot the link. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : This is the forum topic I meant. The dictator said he found the unused slots in the TXM file obtainable with the mmod2txm, what is this and is it available to use.
  • Axis_Crusher : This is your best bet: «link»
  • Mokeo67 : Also I saw on the forum that ships have unused platform slots. How do I use these?
  • Mokeo67 : I tried changing the bogue class carrier to a yorktown class in the phillipene sea mission and one of two things happened. The mission either didnt change or the game crashed.
  • Axis_Crusher : No problem
  • Mokeo67 : That is what im talking about. Ill have a look at it later thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : specific mission’s 3_scene mpak file by working on the .lua file. There is where the bonus unit is actually added into the mission (by the script). I haven't tried it myself so good luck.
  • Axis_Crusher : I assume you are talking about the bonus units that you unlock for certain missions by completing previous ones (like the B - 25’s in the 2nd Battle of Guadalcanal). The bonus units are unlocked by completing certain objectives in the campaign - so that is linked to your campaign progress. Since that cannot be altered you must look at the missiontree.lua file. This is where the unit will show up unlocked on the mission screen. There are references to allunitslock. Also you will have to edit the
  • Mokeo67 : Thank you I will look in this file. I did unlock all the campaign missions, all you have to do is delete the text after 'prerequisite' and it will unlock. But I havent figured out how to unlock the bonus units.
  • Axis_Crusher : I also prefer it being off, just as most of the BSM community. Most players, however prefer repair to be enabled so that is what we should do. Most of our maps it will be disabled through the script however. If you want to play with the game's repair settings you can find it under shipglobals.lua
