End of the line

I have decided to work on singleplayer missions for now. and So I bring to the table:

End of the line (The Battle of Surigao Strait)

I chose this name to mark the end of the battle line era, also this was the last naval battle where "crossing the T" had been accomplished! it's a damn shame really.

currently the map is void of islands, but the ships are in place..they just need to be in better formation.. etc.

Well there it is.. as you can see this mission is VERY hard but I have come 2 ships away from beating it with a badly damaged Yamashiro! by the way if Yamashiro sinks at any point during the mission the player loses, I want to change lose condition though.

I'm trying to avoid cutting out most of the allied fleet by making attack waves in the lua, I could use some help with that if anyone's interested. bu

@Velcor: I basically need help with improving the script. I based this mission off of periscopes threatening's lua file, what I want to do is change the lose condition to trigger when all of the players ships are dead, and for the AI I want to have them send wave attacks instead of sending all their ships at once. lastly I need to remove the need for AI to reach a certain destination on the map but instead simply give them attack orders and send the attack waves starting with pt's on up to battleships towards the end. The player (japan) should win if all Allied ships are sunk.

I think that by adding wave attacks.. I can avoid cutting any allied shipsdrom the map and maybe even add more!

If you like I can send you the scn and lua to review if you really want to help, I can't send the entire mission yet though because of my poor connection.

@Admin: maybe someday when I have a better understanding of BSM's lua commands. and an army of coders to help me.

@roflcopter: Iwo jima is out of the question for now.

gotcha, hmmm  you could do a strike on rabaul mission.... just to make it fair you could say that a small armada of 3 Tone's approach the harbor as the Carriers strike..

I have tried to recreate/manipulate an existing LUA for a singe player map for a long long time. Its very difficult long process that I still dont fully understand. I cant however alter an existing single player LUA very easily but making a new for for a new map no chance in hell.

There is an alternative method via giving individual vessels simple commands in the .SCN such as attack X target, patrol X area, escort X vessel, go to X location. However its not very dynamic because it makes the AI very simple minded, what I mean by that it doesn't weigh in considerations "If X occurs do Y but if X doesn't occur do Z", and that it can only receive and do 1 and only 1 order.

yes I know. and for now I think it's best to work off of existing lua's, thats how I made this mission work, and so far everything is functional.

However I can only play as Allies in those maps. What parameter do I have to change to play those maps as Japanese in the respective map .mpak (And where is the parameter I have to change?)?

  • The Dictator : Makeo67 i've explained how to find the unused slots in the topic and the mmod2txm it's a program that has been shared. However there aren't so many ships with unused platforms and sme of them are in wrong positions and for move them you need to know how to change the mmod file. But if you know how to do it you can make new platfors as you want. I've shared the south dakota disposition and this one is the most intersting in my opinion

  • Axis_Crusher : specific mission’s 3_scene mpak file by working on the .lua file. There is where the bonus unit is actually added into the mission (by the script). I haven't tried it myself so good luck.
  • Axis_Crusher : I assume you are talking about the bonus units that you unlock for certain missions by completing previous ones (like the B - 25’s in the 2nd Battle of Guadalcanal). The bonus units are unlocked by completing certain objectives in the campaign - so that is linked to your campaign progress. Since that cannot be altered you must look at the missiontree.lua file. This is where the unit will show up unlocked on the mission screen. There are references to allunitslock. Also you will have to edit the
  • Mokeo67 : Thank you I will look in this file. I did unlock all the campaign missions, all you have to do is delete the text after 'prerequisite' and it will unlock. But I havent figured out how to unlock the bonus units.
  • Axis_Crusher : I also prefer it being off, just as most of the BSM community. Most players, however prefer repair to be enabled so that is what we should do. Most of our maps it will be disabled through the script however. If you want to play with the game's repair settings you can find it under shipglobals.lua
