Since december 2012 Battlestations: Midway is supported by GameSpy no longer. The only one possibility for Midway players is GameRanger. Please visit www.gameranger.com, download Gameranger client and make new account. You can find other Midway players in the Gameranger rooms. BS:M patch 1.1.1 is required to play online battles. Iowa Mission Pack and Midway Modders Mappacks 1 and 2 are recommended.

Possible units for the new game

Possible units for the new game

This unit list was originally intended for Battlestations: Midway, but now that the modders have decided to develop a new game so that we won't be limited, this list will now be used as a referance for ideas for units for the new game.

To make things a little more interesting, I have decided that for some planes, we should use more than one model.  For example, instead of just the P-51 Mustang, what if we did the P-51A, P-51D and P-51H?  Instead of just the Supermarine Spitfire, what if we did the Spitfire I, Spitfire V and Spitfire IX.  And so on...

I have decided to incorporate the Midway units into the list, so that we can remember not to accidentally recreate those units by accident

LAST ADDITIONS: D-class Submarine, USS New York (ACR-2), Redoutable class, Kostromitnova class, FM-2 Wildcat, Aichi D1A, Etna class protected cruiser, Pisa class armored cruiser

Re: Possible units for the new game

Continuing from where I left off:

AMERICAN ARMORED CRUISERS:

Tennessee class (Not to be confused with the class of battleship)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3f/USSWashingtonACR11.jpg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f1/USSNorthCarolinaACR12.jpg

AMERICAN PROTECTED CRUISERS:

St Louis class (1905, not to be confused with the 1938 class of Light cruiser)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/27/USSStLouisC20cropped.jpg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/00/USS_Milwaukee_%28C-21%29.jpg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7c/USSCharlestonC22.jpg

AMERICAN LIGHT CRUISERS:

Chester class:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/USSBirminghamCL2.jpg

Hull numbers should be 1, 2 and 3 (This was the US Navy's first class of CL)

Omaha class: (NOTE: due to a lack of pictures for this class of the orignial layout, we will go by the WWII layout)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c4/USS_Raleigh_%28CL-7%29_July_1942.jpg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/28/USS_Trenton_%28CL-11%29_May_1943.jpg

Hull numbers should be 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13

Brooklyn class:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/06/H97956.jpg

Hull numbers should be 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47 and 48

St. Louis class:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/91/USS_St._Louis_%28CL-49%29.jpg

Hull numbers are 49 and 50 (Only 2 were built)

Worchester class: (NOTE: This was a post-war cruiser, but we should include it anyway)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c7/USS_Worcester_0414409.jpg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d7/USS_Worcester_0414407.jpg

Hull numbers are 144 and 145 (Only 2 were built)  The modders could also include 146 and 147 if they want, as they were named, but cancelled

AMERICAN HEAVY CRUISERS:

Portland class: (NOTE: The modders are going to have to find a better picture, because this was the best one I could find)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f0/USS_Portland_%28CA-33%29_30_July_1944.jpg

New Orleans class:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f9/USS_Minneapolis_1943.jpg

The following link has many pictures of a very accurate New Orleans class Model:

http://www.motionmodels.com/ships/cc/ca36.html

The Following Link has accurate drawings of both the Wichita class and the Baltimore class:

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ … -schem.htm

This was the only historical picture I could find of the USS Wichita:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/USS_Wichita_CA-45.jpg

This link has pictures of a very accurate model of the Baltimore class:

http://www.motionmodels.com/ships/cc/ca71.html

And the historical pictures:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/USS_Quincy_%28CA-71%29.jpg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/85/USS_Toledo_%28CA-133%29.jpg

Oregon City class: (This was the best picture I could find)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4a/USS_Rochester_%28CA-124%29.jpg

HULL NUMBERS:

Portland class: 33 and 35 (only two were built)
New Orleans class: 32, 34, 36, 37, 38, 39 and 44
Wichita class: 45 (only one was built)
Baltimore class: 68-75, 130-136
Oregon City class: 122, 123 and 124 (only three)

AMERICAN LARGE CRUISERS:

Alaska class: (NOTE: If these pictures are not good enough, we can always refer to Battlestations: Pacific's model for referance)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fd/USS_Alaska_%28CB-1%29-1.jpg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c … rofile.png

Hull Numbers are 1 and 2 (Well, 1 - 6 if you want to count the incomplete and cancelled hulls)

AMERICAN BATTLECRUISERS:

Lexington class: (NOTE: I could use some help in finding other pictures of this particular vessel... this was the only decent one I could find)

http://naingsoemyo.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/500px-lexington_class_battlecruiser2.jpg

Hull numbers are 1 - 6, and the hull classification for battlecruiser is CC in the American Navy, NOT BC or CB

AMERICAN PRE-DREADNOUGHTS:

Kearsarge class:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e … ge_BB5.jpg (This picture is too big to be seen as a thumbnail, so I put it as a link)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/40/USSkearsarge-bb5-underway.jpg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ab/Uss_kentucky_bb-6.jpg

Hull numbers are 5 and 6

Maine class:

45, 46 and 48 (If you want to count the cancelled USS Washington, then include 47 as well)

(ATTENTION: I need pictures for the Tillman class battleship... I cant find any)

(NOTE: Since the Tillman was never ordered, we don't have to worry about hull numbers)

South Dakota class (1920): (I need more pictures for this class as well... this model was the only decent picture I could find, and the model isn't very good in the first place)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e … leship.jpg

Hull numbers range from 49 to 54

North Carolina class:

http://www.coatneyhistory.com/NCarolina.htm (If these pictures are not good enough, the North Carolina is a museum ship in Milmington, North Carolina and she is virtually unchanged from her WWII configuration.  So if any of you live in North Carolina, and don't mind making a trip there and taking some pictures that might prove helpful, that might help greatly)

Hull numbers are 55 and 56

South Dakota class:

http://www.coatneyhistory.com/SDakota.htm
(If these pictures prove to be not as helpful as they should be, the USS Massachusetts in Fall River Massachusetts is virtually unchanged from her WWII era configuration, so if anyone out there lives in Massachusetts and doesn't mind taking a trip to battleship cove to help us out, that could really go a long way to helping us out.  Of course, that is only if the link above proves to be not as helpful as it should.  Then again, we can always use the Battlestations: Pacific model as referance, but that may not be as accurate as it should be in terms of looking like the real deal)

Hull numbers are 57, 58, 59 and 60

Montana class:

Hull numbers are 67, 68, 69, 70 and 71

USS Langley (CV-1): (The following Link has many pictures of the USS Langley... ignore AV-3 pictures, we want the aircraft carrier configuration, NOT the seaplane tender configuration

Even though Langley was CV-1, we do not need to worry about it, because there was no "1" anywhere on CV-1

Bouge class Escort carrier:

Hull numbers are as follows:

AMERICAN NAVY: 9 - 21, 23, 25, and 31 - 54

ROYAL NAVY: D18, D02, D80, D32, D64, D91, D73, D12, D70, D40, D24, D26, D51, D98, D01, D38, D09, D42, D62, D90, D77, D23, D21, D07, D10, D03, D85, D48, D19, D72, D31, D55, D79 and D82

Casablanca class Escort Carrier:

The following Link has many pictures of a very accurate model of the USS Kitkun Bay, a Casablanca class CVE

Hull numbers range from 55 to 104

Independence class Light Carrier:

A Very accurate model of an Independence class CVL:

Historical Pictures and Line Drawing:

Hull numbers range from 22 - 30

Essex class:

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ … -schem.htm (Ignore 1970 configuration pic... it useless to us)

Hull numbers range from 9 - 21, 31 - 34, 36 - 40, 45 and 47.  The modders could also include the cancelled 35 and 46 if they want

Midway class:

http://www.dataviewbooks.com/cv41-1.jpg

Hull numbers are 41, 42 and 43

(NOTE: We need more pictures for the Midway... This was all I could find and quite honestly I don't think it is good enough)

Re: Possible units for the new game

It's good to have many units, but how the hell do you get used to use 300 units? ae

Re: Possible units for the new game

Hey, I don't make the units, I just organize the list. (lol)

And on top of that, for all we know maybe less than half of these units will actually be made.

Re: Possible units for the new game

I just want to point something out for those of you who are thinking "Are we seriously going to make ALL of these units?"

In my opinion, I think no, because you need to remember that when it comes to making new units, three variables need to be taken into account:

    .UNIT POPULARITY
Certain units are more popular than others, so if more people want a specific unit over another unit, then chances are the more popular unit will be created first, and the other may not be created at all.

    .UNIT BALANCING
If we create one unit, then we may have to create another unit to make things fair.  For example, if we decide to make the P-80 Shooting Star, we will also have to make the ME-262 for the Axis to make things fair.

    .PICTURE REFERANCES
One thing the modders will want to do is make the units in question look as close to the real thing as possible.  If certain units do not have enough referances, then chances are these units will be overlooked in favor of other units that do have plenty of picture referances.

Of course, that is MY opinion, and these variables were determined purely through logical reasoning.  However, if the modders are reading this, you agree with my points, right?

Re: Possible units for the new game

Triviaman sorta just reminded me of something. I think we should have like 3/4 pacific war and also 1/4 atlantic. This will satisfy all the people who want a battlestations atlantic.l

Re: Possible units for the new game

You could chose out of different types of destroyers, light cruisers, etc... with every new map.
Ofcourse we need to develope some gameplay ideas on how MP will work before we can talk about this.

Re: Possible units for the new game

Hi, just my opinion:

I'm not sure about the HMS Hermes. A late carrier that never saw action in WWII.
May I instead draw your attention to this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Pacific_Fleet

If that article is correct the RN had more carriers in the pacific than the us - if i'm not mistaken!
Illustrious class
Implacable class
... probably the best carrier-classes build pre- and during WWII due to their armored flight decks.
& much more authentic in a WWII scenario than a HMS Hermes.

I'd love to see some advanced german U-boats in a future BS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-2540
Typ XXI would kick the xxxx out of allied vessels.

Re: Possible units for the new game

Wrong Hermes Skunkworks; the Hermes on this list refers to the carrier Availible to Midway already.

And Just so you know, about the German U-boats, there are currently 4 classes of U-boats on the list

Re: Possible units for the new game

Major ships and subs for the British, German, Soviet, French and Italian navies should be included. For nice 'what-if' scenarios, carriers for each country and their possible aircraft could be added (e.g. graf zepplin, aquila, sparviero).

Re: Possible units for the new game

Oh, I almost forgot to say this when I was listing the variables for unit consideration

UNIT SIMILARITY

If two units of the same nationality prove to be too similar, chances are only one of them will be created, since the modders may consider making two similar yet different classes a waste of time

This unit list was originally intended for Battlestations: Midway, but now that the modders have decided to develop a new game so that we won't be limited, this list will now be used as a referance for ideas for units for the new game.

(Anything marked with a * is a unit for Midway or Pacific, and thus we can use those models as referance, without the need to find actual historical pictures... if the modders deem those models valid)

Wait do you mean from scratch?

As far as I know, yes.  But you will need to ask Est about that

Re: Possible units for the new game

Make sure all these units existed during WWII or else it'll look like those units used a time machina to go back and fight WWII     XD.    I like that you are using units from every WWII country. It would be cool if we can get all those units, but this would take about 1 and a half year or 2 to make the units.

  • Legendary Da : Hi everyone, I have one (or two) quick question about BS:M modding. I try to figure out sp mapmaking, and my first act on it was to convert a MP map to SP. However I can only play as Allies in those maps. What parameter do I have to change to play those maps as Japanese in the respective map .mpak (And where is the parameter I have to change?)?
  • N_Trainz : G'day mates, I just wanted to let those who use Windows 10 and also for those who are having troubles getting the game launching because of Games for Windows LIVE, I made a tutorial of how to get it working successfully again like on Windows 8.1. Its on my channel and here's the link to the video. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : The dictator, I downloaded the mmod2txm and I added four slots to the fletcher and a couple to the lexington. Thanks for the help though.
  • The Dictator : Makeo67 i've explained how to find the unused slots in the topic and the mmod2txm it's a program that has been shared. However there aren't so many ships with unused platforms and sme of them are in wrong positions and for move them you need to know how to change the mmod file. But if you know how to do it you can make new platfors as you want. I've shared the south dakota disposition and this one is the most intersting in my opinion
  • N_Trainz : Well it looks like we have spammers again
  • Mokeo67 : No problem Thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : Not really
  • Mokeo67 : Ok thanks anyway. Do you know who does?
  • Axis_Crusher : Unfortunately I don't deal with that part of modding
  • Mokeo67 : Sorry forgot the link. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : This is the forum topic I meant. The dictator said he found the unused slots in the TXM file obtainable with the mmod2txm, what is this and is it available to use.
  • Axis_Crusher : This is your best bet: «link»
  • Mokeo67 : Also I saw on the forum that ships have unused platform slots. How do I use these?
  • Mokeo67 : I tried changing the bogue class carrier to a yorktown class in the phillipene sea mission and one of two things happened. The mission either didnt change or the game crashed.
  • Axis_Crusher : No problem
  • Mokeo67 : That is what im talking about. Ill have a look at it later thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : specific mission’s 3_scene mpak file by working on the .lua file. There is where the bonus unit is actually added into the mission (by the script). I haven't tried it myself so good luck.
  • Axis_Crusher : I assume you are talking about the bonus units that you unlock for certain missions by completing previous ones (like the B - 25’s in the 2nd Battle of Guadalcanal). The bonus units are unlocked by completing certain objectives in the campaign - so that is linked to your campaign progress. Since that cannot be altered you must look at the missiontree.lua file. This is where the unit will show up unlocked on the mission screen. There are references to allunitslock. Also you will have to edit the
  • Mokeo67 : Thank you I will look in this file. I did unlock all the campaign missions, all you have to do is delete the text after 'prerequisite' and it will unlock. But I havent figured out how to unlock the bonus units.
  • Axis_Crusher : I also prefer it being off, just as most of the BSM community. Most players, however prefer repair to be enabled so that is what we should do. Most of our maps it will be disabled through the script however. If you want to play with the game's repair settings you can find it under shipglobals.lua
