Since december 2012 Battlestations: Midway is supported by GameSpy no longer. The only one possibility for Midway players is GameRanger. REVISED WITH NEW INFO!

Yes its possible to modify the guns on ships and skin them or ship skin/mod the hull of each ship for each level / multiplayer level.

For those who have the skill and wanted to go about making a skin pack or other things via modeling / skinning ill give a quick run down what youll need.

1. Know how to work with .DDS files and .MMOD files.

2. Have the right tools to work the files.

3. Have BSM ripper

The basic run down of where the files are is simple.

First get BSM ripper http://battlestations.eu/index.php/en/d … ders-tools

Next open up BSM ripper then select a map by hitting open mpak file, persay in this case coral sea which is 1_MM_Mmission01.Mpak

Once opened, a ton of files will appear, ignore most of them, the ones you want will be the Model \ files

Next select the files you wish to access, then hit extract files, then hit open folder to view where it is.

Next, how does one modify the .DDS files you ask? After doing some research basically the file can be edited in Photoshop and or Paint shop pro. but to open it you will require you some external files to view and probably to edit the .DDS files. Those external files can be found here.

You also will need a converter to turn the files back into a .DDS file after you edit them so a converter can be found here.

I have been researching the .MMOD file and how to edit it, but my reseach has bore no fruits yet, till then please wait till I file a way to edit it or unless you know how please post how!

After you have made your edits select the folder where you made the edits, make sure you have extracted all the files from a 1_MM mpak file, then select mpak file select your folder, then hit pack mpak, then overide the mpak in the BSM mpak folder.

From there its all you, our current modding experience in this area is very very limited so random experimentation to test things out in this area will be appreciated for any future modeling projects. Who knows maybe one day we might make a model pack or a skin pack from your works!

I thought about something like a new models for midway game, but i can only think, because im not  a graphic designer or 3D modeller. And these things needs knowledge with software like 3DMax or similar. Last days i found a nice rendered software, done by 3DMax

Okay i still remember two months ago there was no chance for first midway multiplayer map, only small steps by gaming, and now we can play Indian Ocean Raid. So i think we should believe in some day we could add our own ships and planes.

Yea I know and thanks ^^ I just wanted to see if I can get this sector started up, and get people interested into the prospect of making their own units.

Yea theres a program I know of for a long time Gmax, its a free version of 3dmax, a good place to for you people if you need the right app's (more info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gmax) However its not as full as 3dmax might be but might be enough to make simple units.

I know its weird I said photoshop previously on the DDS thing but most of the sites kept telling me its a file associated with photoshop and with my lacking knowledge of 3d rendering and what not, its kinda hard for me to say whats right.

ok i have no clue of modelling or making skins or whatsoever
but do i get this right: the skin will only be changed for that one unit on that one particlular map? (lets say Northampton in Coral sea)

Yes, as far as I know each map has its own models/skins for each class so lets say in your case the Northampton in the coral sea and one in... I dunno in the battle of java sea for single player (I think thats the mission name, the one where you have the Northampton and the exter comes in later) use independent models/skins files.

So in short what you do to one model on one map doesn't affect another of the same ship on another map as far as I know BUT however I have yet to come across global unit files, so for the time being I should be right.

yup, you are

most filles for the units on the map are present in the mpak

but not all

the us planes fo instance don't seem to be in the mpak files at all

(or maybe they are named different)

I've looked aroun for ways to open mmod files but so far I havent't found anything

i have a very nice link for that but the problem is every download cost real money but u can take a look in modells  what i mean to integrate here look under category  submarines and watercraft and planes  ab

only for look, i became the new units from a friend and when not i`ll do it self i take infos for that since i have that idea ab

My Brain is exploding for new units and map ideas ag

have so much more battlefields of ww2 in my head i think theres so much from pacific that not calls here but it was very important for the Victory of USA

Wow the J2M is amazing looking! But wait what the heck are we paying for here?! And I agree with Katarya its nice work but not worth the $25-35, should be more like $5-10 per model.

Oh and we so need the A5M... need something to counter the F2A and Warhawk XD.

Thats the interesting thing and next challenge. I currently asked my friend, who is hothead with world war 2 and planes.He is also good with software like a 3DMax. He told me, he can give us some models and we can find these models too for free and he will try to find more. At this moment (after short talking) i got Corsair, Seahawk and german light cruiser Dresden 3D models. So... now we just need more info about how-to import these models (with textures) to game.

Im looking that up EST and from the looks of it all the info that it needs is changed in the global scripting files which dictates how much health the ship has, how fast it can repair, and how many guns it has. it looks pretty complex with all the positioning stuff so im unsure about touching this area just yet.

While your at it get me a historical 1939 kreigsmarine flag pic and ill see if I can add that and create the German party/race so it will identify German ships with the right flag. ^^

(I prefer historical Nazi flags but a lot of people have issues against nazism and the flag, so if it does become a problem get me the 1918 Prussia naval flag.)

I was thinking of converting BSP planes and ships to BSM but this is just proposal and I haven't tried it yet. But we can improve game considerably if we added ships that are in BSP like my all time favorite the Super Yamato.

alrite i gotz some ideas for some jap and us planes we should bring in BSM. lets start with some jap not very many planes tho so dont worry... 2 different fighters: franks and tonys , torpedo bombers: jills (u can get all their files and stuff from games like heroes of the pacfic) us planes again not tht many onlyy 3 rite now, heavy bombers: B-24 Liberators, Fighters: Blackwidows (bombers too but mainly fighters) and the best fighter of the WWII P-51 Mustang (again u can get files on fighters but just the fighters from heroes of the pacific idk wher to get B-24s

I finally got it working, and just figured out how to make the updater now since it'll be two parts with one containing the misc files and the other mostly the mpak files. It'll be a stand - alone DLC mod just like the Bismarck Mission Pack was. Like I said I plan to have it all completed and uploaded by this weekend
