Since december 2012 Battlestations: Midway is supported by GameSpy no longer. The only one possibility for Midway players is GameRanger. Please visit www.gameranger.com, download Gameranger client and make new account. You can find other Midway players in the Gameranger rooms. BS:M patch 1.1.1 is required to play online battles. Iowa Mission Pack and Midway Modders Mappacks 1 and 2 are recommended.

3D program to develop new items

So, now, we (modders team) need new 3D models to create new unit. Because without 3D model there is nothing to see ...

We can hope find some units (like planes or ships) but some other must be built at 100%. Example : new island.

To do this job we need a 3D soft and we need modelers to draw them.

If you have any experience about that, thanks to post here and give your opinion or what you know.

velcor why don't you tell us how much vertices a complex unit in BSM has, like for instance the iowa.

that way all people will know how complex their model can be.

Now we just need a ship class.

i pick the Brooklyn class CL , just a random ship to test it with.

alright, Velcor as soon as you give this info im sure someone will want to start modeling it.

OK.
In fact, i don't know how many vertices there are in units.
For modders team it is possible to use Mmod2OBJ. And look at this for the same kind of unit. (you can do that too, you have this soft)
I'll take a look for several class of item, and put that here soon.

Surigao island : 5 000
zero : 3 000
Swordfish : 4 000
a house on island : 350
Pt boat : 16 000
Fuso : 25 000
Kuma : 10 000
Mogami : 20 000
Akagi (CV) : 31 000
Yamato : 32 000

There is a limit for number of vertex. In BSM, indices are encoding with 16 bits. So it's impossible to have more than 65536 vertex with a mesh. Today Vendi_HUN sent me a project of ship. But with more than 122 000 vertex, this ship can't be added in BSM. Must remove some vertex before. We are searching with a lower version of this ship.

Hey all,
Im working on the seaplane for the CA Dorsetshire, (got it from Vendi) http://battlestations.eu/components/com_agora/img/members/673/walrus3.jpg
but still in 3dm Rhino format, large file size. I will reduce it by exporting it as a 3ds. My question is, what is a good size for this object for it to work well?

I took an example model file from BSM.
the zero

its filesize is about 327 kb  so you should aim for something like that.
but it probably wont matter if its more. Its just that perforemance wil drop the more complexer they get.

Yes, and please remember small 3d details can be done via textures.

Update to the Dorsetshire: Reworked superstructure and correct placement of aircraft crane, lifeboats,Seaplane, propellors and rudder. Vendi said he can add guns. Now that I know what the game requirements are for the models to work good I want to model more ships and planes.
Is the F4U corsair in BSP importable for BSP?

basicly Velcor was working on a program to do that, but we stopped him because it would be a LOT of work for him and he is already a busy man.
vendi wil know the finer details, because i forgot :S

  • N_Trainz : it shouldn't crash any of the IJN missions, just one mission has the history of crashing in the Challenge missions 2, I don't know the name as its been a while I last loaded this mod

  • N_Trainz : Actually it was removed by me for 2 reasons; 1. was it was uploaded in the wrong area and 2. the installer didn't autp - detect the disk version, only the Steam version (since that is what I have). Going to remake it so if you won't mind a but longer wat that'll be appreciated

I finally got it working, and just figured out how to make the updater now since it'll be two parts with one containing the misc files and the other mostly the mpak files. It'll be a stand - alone DLC mod just like the Bismarck Mission Pack was. Like I said I plan to have it all completed and uploaded by this weekend
