Since december 2012 Battlestations: Midway is supported by GameSpy no longer. The only one possibility for Midway players is GameRanger. Please visit www.gameranger.com, download Gameranger client and make new account. You can find other Midway players in the Gameranger rooms. BS:M patch 1.1.1 is required to play online battles. Iowa Mission Pack and Midway Modders Mappacks 1 and 2 are recommended.

Strike On Tulagi, Multiplayer version

Strike On Tulagi, Multiplayer version

Gentlemen, it has been a while, but I have finally come around to releasing another map idea.

I present to you, Strike on Tulagi (multiplayer)

I was playing the single player map version yesterday, when I got the idea to make a multiplayer version out of it.

It's my first attempt at a small scale map idea, so it may require some work, if approved.

Once I upload the map picture to a point where you can actually see it clearly, I will post all the other, important details

Ok, something has gone REALLY wrong with my attempt to upload my map image... if the administrators could help, that is appreciated.

Re: Strike On Tulagi, Multiplayer version

this is what remember:

I scanned the picture, saved it as a JPEG, and when I tried to post it using the standard method of posting pictures from my computer, that happened.

I found it to be weird because it didnt happen previously.

When I said "that happened" I was referring to how when I try to make the picture bigger, it becomes less clear and how when you click on it to see the whole picture, only part of it is visible

Ah OK. Try to download software which will give you simple resize picture options. I can recommend IrFanView image browser. Free, very fast and has nice features. If you decide to use it - pls remember about Plugins.

One of things on my To-Do list is scale pictures on forum (it can currently be done only by forcing scale and save them smaller). I need something, what could scale picture to fit browser window on-the-fly (when pcture thumbnail is clicked).

Wait a second... a comment on a thread which has absolutely nothing to do with the thread topic.

Est, I am 80% sure that is a "spam" comment

Re: Strike On Tulagi, Multiplayer version

Ok, since I can't seem to do anything about the picture, I'll just give the stats.  The top is clearly visible anyway when you bring it to full size.  The bottom only has the American fleet; and in a few sentances I'll elaborate on where the American ships are located.

AMERICAN UNITS:

Player 1: CV DD (30 F4Fs, 30 SBDs and 30 TBFs, 4 slots)
Player 2: CA DD
Player 3: CA DD
Player 4: CL DD

SPECIFICS:

1 Yorktown carrier, 2 Northampton CAs, 1 Atlanta CL and 4 Fletcher DDs (Plus 6 AI controlled LSTs)

The US Fleet is divided into two parts: The Primary fleet has six ships (The carrier, CL, 1 CA and 3 DDs) and is located between E8 and F8.  It is a 2-3-1 formation.  The front row, from left to right, is: Fletcher DD, Northampton CA (Player 2 units).  The middle row, left to right, is: Fletcher DD, Yorktown CV (Player 1 units), Atlanta CL (Player 4).  Bringing up the rear, directly behind the carrier, is another DD (Player 4).  The secondary fleet, consisting of a Northampton CA and Fletcher DD (Player 3 units) is about 2 1/2 squares to the west.  They are separate because they are escorting the 6 LSTs from SP. (Which are AI controlled)

JAPANESE UNITS:

Player 1: CA DD
Player 2: CA DD
Player 3: AF DD (30 A6Ms, 24 D3As, 24 B5Ns, 12 G3Ms, 4 slots)
Player 4: SY DD (10 H6Ks, 10 H8Ks, 10 PTs, 4 slots

Specifics: 1 Mogami CA, 1 Tone CA, 1 Airfeild, 1 Shipyard, 4 Fubuki DDs (Plus 4 AI controlled cargos)

Player 1 has the two ships in the upper left (Mogami group), player 2 has the two ships in the upper right (Tone group), player 3 has the airfield and destroyer on the west side of Island, player 4 has Shipyard and destroyer on right side.  Basically, Tulagi island is set up exactly as it was in SP (the docked AK, the 3 AK fleet, the parked DDs and so on)

US OBJECTIVES:

Primary:
Sink the cruisers
Destroy Airfield
Destroy shipyard
Destroy fortress (Like from Single player, Tulagi island will have the same AA and coastal gun defences, including fortress)

Secondary:
Sink All 4 cargos
Ensure survival of at least 2 LSTs
Destroy Tulagi defenses (AA guns and coastal guns)

Japanese Objectives:

Primary:
Sink Yorktown
Sink cruisers
Sink Destroyers
Hold the Island

Secondary:

Sink the LSTs
Ensure survival of at least 1 AK

Re: Strike On Tulagi, Multiplayer version

Oh, I forgot to ask: should I make a video on this map, like what I did with Ten-Go and Savo Island, or is the verbal descriptions I gave enough?

Re: Strike On Tulagi, Multiplayer version

It appears that some people are starting to talk about making maps again... so I've brought this idea back up so people can see it.

What do you think guys?

Re: Strike On Tulagi, Multiplayer version

I like the stats. The two US and two Japanese cancel each other out with equal firepower. The Atlanta pretty much neutralizes the Japanese airfield, along with the Yorktown's air wing. Plus, the two side's DD's cancel each other out (with slight Japanese superiority). Looks pretty balanced. However, I don't like the secondary objective idea. Doesn't fit with the main jist of multiplayer. It would be fun, however. I like it that its pretty balanced. Nice. Plus, I would like to see a video if its not too hard.

Re: Strike On Tulagi, Multiplayer version

(Sorry this reply is late)

Well, the idea of the secondary objectives was that I wanted to have something a little different with this map... you know, so that it was not "just another map idea."

  • Legendary Da : Hi everyone, I have one (or two) quick question about BS:M modding. I try to figure out sp mapmaking, and my first act on it was to convert a MP map to SP. However I can only play as Allies in those maps. What parameter do I have to change to play those maps as Japanese in the respective map .mpak (And where is the parameter I have to change?)?
  • N_Trainz : G'day mates, I just wanted to let those who use Windows 10 and also for those who are having troubles getting the game launching because of Games for Windows LIVE, I made a tutorial of how to get it working successfully again like on Windows 8.1. Its on my channel and here's the link to the video. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : The dictator, I downloaded the mmod2txm and I added four slots to the fletcher and a couple to the lexington. Thanks for the help though.
  • The Dictator : Makeo67 i've explained how to find the unused slots in the topic and the mmod2txm it's a program that has been shared. However there aren't so many ships with unused platforms and sme of them are in wrong positions and for move them you need to know how to change the mmod file. But if you know how to do it you can make new platfors as you want. I've shared the south dakota disposition and this one is the most intersting in my opinion
  • N_Trainz : Well it looks like we have spammers again
  • Mokeo67 : No problem Thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : Not really
  • Mokeo67 : Ok thanks anyway. Do you know who does?
  • Axis_Crusher : Unfortunately I don't deal with that part of modding
  • Mokeo67 : Sorry forgot the link. «link»
  • Mokeo67 : This is the forum topic I meant. The dictator said he found the unused slots in the TXM file obtainable with the mmod2txm, what is this and is it available to use.
  • Axis_Crusher : This is your best bet: «link»
  • Mokeo67 : Also I saw on the forum that ships have unused platform slots. How do I use these?
  • Mokeo67 : I tried changing the bogue class carrier to a yorktown class in the phillipene sea mission and one of two things happened. The mission either didnt change or the game crashed.
  • Axis_Crusher : No problem
  • Mokeo67 : That is what im talking about. Ill have a look at it later thanks for the help
  • Axis_Crusher : specific mission’s 3_scene mpak file by working on the .lua file. There is where the bonus unit is actually added into the mission (by the script). I haven't tried it myself so good luck.
  • Axis_Crusher : I assume you are talking about the bonus units that you unlock for certain missions by completing previous ones (like the B - 25’s in the 2nd Battle of Guadalcanal). The bonus units are unlocked by completing certain objectives in the campaign - so that is linked to your campaign progress. Since that cannot be altered you must look at the missiontree.lua file. This is where the unit will show up unlocked on the mission screen. There are references to allunitslock. Also you will have to edit the
  • Mokeo67 : Thank you I will look in this file. I did unlock all the campaign missions, all you have to do is delete the text after 'prerequisite' and it will unlock. But I havent figured out how to unlock the bonus units.
  • Axis_Crusher : I also prefer it being off, just as most of the BSM community. Most players, however prefer repair to be enabled so that is what we should do. Most of our maps it will be disabled through the script however. If you want to play with the game's repair settings you can find it under shipglobals.lua
