Everyone was eagerly anticipating the release of BSmodHQ v.3.5 for BSP and Advanced Warfare Pack revision 1 as a patch to fix some of the major shortcomings of v.3.0 and the Advanced Warfare Pack.
A lot of ideas and concepts were thrown around and a lot of concepts came up.
Then we contemplated the Last Stand Pack which will add more Skirmish and MP maps on top of the existing ones from AWP.
Since the new update is going to be so comprehensive it was decided it was no longer fit to be a sub version of BSmodHQ Update v.3.0 for BSP - therefore behold BSmodHQ Update v.4.0 for BSP and it will be unlike anything before it. The Last Stand Mission Pack was dropped in favour of 2 new campaigns under the title of Long Odds Mission Pack - this will be developed after the release of BSmodHQ Update v.4.0 for BSP.
It will start off as a standard version of the game (based on official version 1.2) and it will be built from the ground up as a brand new mod.
Most of the existing changes of the previous 3 updates will still be included, with some extra tweaks to them and a lot of new features.
This is a good opportunity to revise everything and give the community the best update possible. The Advanced Warfare Pack maps will also be receiving a lot of love in its second revision.
- Each of the 9 maps will be distributed among the 5 game modes depending on how the map plays out, for example Air Battle over Japan will be moved to and optimized for Escort.
- This will allow the AI to be your opponent, although it sacrifices the manual unit launching (which comes with unacceptable glitches) with the Unit Manager.
Did I mention that the Volcano Map Pack, Carrier Battles Map Pack and Mustang Unit Pack official DLC will be included in v.4.0? Of course we are going to fix some of the balancing issues and glitches that came with those DLC. One example is the totally unbalanced map Chokepoint Escort.
The complete logs of all changes and missions will be posted below as they become available.
BSmodHQ v.4.0 for BSP
Advanced Warfare Pack Revision 2
The Advanced Warfare Pack maps will undergo an extensive rework. The maps will be distributed amongst all 5 game modes and receive proper AI. The manual launching of units will be substituted with the Support Manager to prevent all the issues previously encountered. This will be compensated for in the map design.
Air Battle over Japan: Escort mode
3 squads of 5 G5N Liz bombers are moving across the map and must reach an end destination. The Japanese fighters spawn ahead of the bombers and the US fighters a few kilometres in front and to the side of the bombers. The US must stop the bombers while the Japanese need to keep the bombers alive long enough to reach their target. AI jets from both sides will join the fray too.
Operation Ten-Go: Escort mode
The Yamato and her escort fleet is heading south, towards Okinawa. The Yamato must reach land in order for the Japanese to win. The US sends TF 58's carriers to stop the Yamato. The US Spawn SB2C Helldivers, TBF Avengers, F4U Corsairs and F6F Hellcats with which to engage the Japanese fleet. The Japanese spawn Akizuki-class and Shimakaze-class destroyers in defense of the fleet. Kamikazes are also available. The US must sink the Yamato whilst the Japanese must ensure the Yamato reaches Okinawa. The Japanese may also opt to attempt to sink one of the US carriers on the map as succeeding in this will cause the US to lose the mission.
Battle of the Java Sea: Escort mode
The Japanese transports are heading for Java and the ABDACOM forces are hell-bent on destroying these ships. Unfortunately, the ABDACOM force got taken by surprise by the sheer might of the Japanese escort fleet and must now try and escape from the area - or face total annihilation. The ABDACOM and Japanese forces spawn cruisers and destroyers. The Japanese only have one goal: sink the ABDACOM cruisers! The ABDACOM fleet will navigate across the map while the Japanese will attack from all sides. Will the ABDACOM cruisers escape, or meet their imminent fate?
Battle of Sibuyan Sea: Competitive mode
In this decisive clash the Japanese are trying to get through the Sibuyan Sea, but the US Navy is determined to stop this from happening. The US can spawn from their carrier (SBD Dauntless, TBF Avenger, F4F Wildcat), airfield (B-25 Mitchell, P-38 Lightning) or shipyard (Elco PT, Fletcher). They will face waves of Japanese planes trying to sink the US battle fleet while trying themselves to deliver a crushing blow to the Japanese battle fleet. The US players must simply keep their carrier and battleships afloat while trying to sink the Japanese cruiser and battleships.
Iwo Jima: Siege mode
The US forces are moving in to capture Iwo Jima and the Japanese must stop them. The US must neutralise the defenses and capture the HQ. The Japanese must inflict as heavy damage possible to the landing and bombardment forces. Landing ship will spawn over time and attempt to capture the island. The US have 2 carriers (F4U Corsair) to provide support. The US may also spawn cruisers(Cleveland) with which to bombard the coastal defenses. The Japanese have 1 shipyard (H8K Emily, Gyoraitei, Shinyo) and 1Airfield (J2M Raiden, D4Y Judy, Ohka Carrier) with which to stop the US. The defenses include fortresses, heavy and light AA in addition to batteries. The first team to drain the other team's points to 0 will win. If the US captures the HQ the US will also win.
Port Moresby: Competitive mode
The Japanese are invading Port Moresby. The area is heavily defended, but the Japanese are up to the task. The Japanese may spawn from their carrier Zuikaku (A6M Zero). The US will offer resistance in the form of coastal defences, attacks from their airfields, aircraft carrier and shipyards. The players will compete to see who can inflict the most damage whilst keeping the Zuikaku afloat ensuring support for the invasion.
Operation Midway: Siege mode
The Japanese are planning to invade Midway, but the US anticipated the move. The clash that will decide the course of the war is inevitable. The Japanese send a force of 4 aircraft carriers (A6M Zero, D3A Val, B5N Kate) in support of the invasion fleet. The Allies have 1 airfield (F2A Buffalo, TBF Avenger, B-17 Flying Fortress) 3 carriers (F4F Wildcat, SBD Dauntless, TBD Devastator). Troop Transports will attempt to launch Daihatsu landing craft to capture the base. The Japanese must neutralise Midway's defences as well as hunt down any Allied carriers in the area. The US must find and sink the Japanese carriers whilst defending Midway Atoll. The first team to drain the other team's points to 0 will win. If the Japanese capture the HQ, sink an aircraft carrier or destroy the airfield they will also win. Should the US forces break through and sink a Japanese aircraft carrier they will win.
Steel Monsters: Duel mode
A central pair of islands and 2 opposing fleets. The islands split the ships from each team in half. The players on the outside can either go around the island or join the fray in the centre. The course you choose will determine your ultimate fate.
Endgame: Island Capture mode
There are 3 large groups of islands. The northwest corner has the first group of islands and also plays host to the Japanese. The southeast corner hosts the second group of islands as well as the US. The centre of the map contains the third group of islands and will be the critically contested part of the map. The islands here are farther apart - giving both fleets the space required to fight. A single small Supply Base island will flank the eastern and western perimeter of the map - yielding a special Naval Supply. Both sides may also opt to flank each other, using the sheer scale of the map in order to go around. The most uncommon units will be available in this map (New York, LSM(R), Renown, York, De Ruyter, Bogue, Hermes, Hurricane, Agano, Kongo, Kuma, Agano, Midget Submarine, Raiden, Zuiho and more).
Should the opportunity present itself, there will be a 4th Escort map in the form of Force Z, but no promises are being made.
